See "DVD is not playing correctly."
It explains how to import the codec to play DVD
I hope it works for you!

This is an excellent player. I have used many other players like VLC, KMplayer, BSplayer ... etc but GOM is on Top. Especially for video effects and subtitles. And it allow moving by key frames which results in smooth playing.
PS:
Gom Player 2.1.25.5015 and Gom Player 2.1.24.5013 have problems. Please Use Gom Player 2.1.21.4846, its a perfect release.

Thanx a million, Jason for this...
running xp profesional,
1. PUT YOUR CODEC INTO A BRAND NEW FOLDER
2. Go to "Organize" should be on the upper right hand corner of the folder
3. Click on "Folder and Search Options"
4. Click on the "View" tab
5. Scroll down to the folder "Hidden files and folders" and uncheck "dont show hidden files..." and check "show hidden files..."
6. right below that UNCHECK "hide extensions for known file types"
7. Now click ok and go back to the folder.
8. You should see sth like dtsfilter.download, right click on the file and choose "Rename"
9. Rename the codec file to "codecfile.exe"***
***example dont rename dtsfilter.download to codecfile.exe but rename the dtsfilter to dtsfilter.exe...in short only change the file extensions***

Stand on your head...
Oh come on you knew someone was going to say it.
Frankly I have yet to find one thing that I like about GOM.
MPHC still much better, heck even Jet Audio is better.

@ Adriana
I've got the same problem like you. My Gom player can open the MKV video yet there is no sound.
It seems that the gom player cant play ripped/ compressed version of MKV properly.
I have another non-ripped/compressed MKV files and it just plays perfectly using gomplayer.
I wonder why gom couldnt play compressed MKV smoothly.
*Instead you can use Media Player Classic to open this so-called compressed MKV and it works perfectly for me with the sound on. cheers

Hey, I am using GOM for a long time, but I've re-installed Windows on my computer and, thus, GOM-Player...and though before it used to open all kind of video formats, now the GOM-Player version 2.21.4846 is giving me the Codec error message when trying to play files like .mkv and .mp4, the files open but there is no sound in it...and when I click on Find Codec, there is none found. What do I have to do? Please help,I really enjoy GOM.

@ gizmo:
Gom player is awesome but it dosnt have built in rmvb codec so the fix for your problem is
1.install real alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm) or
2.re-install in you have already installed!
This problem also occured to me! and I found out that its not a problem of gom, but a problem of Real alternative/real (rmvb) codec!

It's a great player which plays all major format.
But yesterday, i don't know why, but it stopped playing RMVB format. I had played one RMVB clip few days back on GOM, but yesterday same or other clip would not open. I tried to re-stall it also, but same issue.
Last major updation, was installing IE 8.
If someone can tell what may be issue & how to overcome it?
Thanks

Why do they do this to me?

I like this player because its internal codecs allow it to play "oddball" files. For example, somebody digitized the film prints of an old Japanese anime - Sherlock Hound. Whoever did the encode decided to use a combination of H.264 video, Vorbis audio and put it in an MKV wrapper. The Dixv player couldn't get the Vorbis codecs, neither could Real Player or Windows Media Player. GOM Player played it correctly on the first try. Overall: "Pretty Darn Good". Just have the folks at Greetech get rid of the "high-ascii" garbage in the time slider bar.

Two of my friends are suffering from this problem. Surprisingly both of them are using Asus motherboard.
I tried everything.
*Scan with anti-virus
*Install windows XP
*Install AGP card and DirectX latest version
*Download and install the latest version of GOM player.
*Not success with normal settings. Then change render mode as seen in other topics.
*Then try with codecs.
But all failed.
When I try to play any common video format, "Codecs cant be found" message appears. Only MKV format runs but that also shows the "Codecs cant be found" message while running!!
And one more thing. In my pc GOM player works like a charm. When I play something, some icon appears at the right corner of taskbar such as "ffdshow audio decoder". But no such thing appears in my friend's PC.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

A good player, but definately needs to address the CODEC issue. So many Torrent AVI's do not play due to missing CODEC's even on the newest edition GOM Player. Gom never can find the appropriate CODEC, So you end up installing VLC and a bunch of other players in the hope of a lucky dip to get the video running. The Pro's would have to be the Audio Equalizer which tunes up those horrible 128KBS Avi audio streams into quality audio, try the "treble" selection under the AUDIO/Equalizer setting for re-tuning those nasty high bass audio streams on your AVI rips.

GOM is a decent media player. I've used for about a month now, on and off. I just wish it would come with internal codecs that it needs installed into it own program folder instead of the operating system. Easy to use, clean interface, good controls and playback is smooth. If the required codec is not found by GOM during playback, it will direct you to download the required codec. 4 of 5 stars.

Uh... not it's not.
I really like GOM player. Over the years, I've tried a PILE of players (MPC, BSPlayer, VLC, Zoom, etc, etc, etc.) GOM player works best for me. I can make it change the output of my vid card to a specified resolution when switching to full screen. So good so far!

Just one question, can I uninstall all my other codes - ffdshow?

This little player is that unknown warrior who ends up beating everyone...
I heard about GOM completely by chance when someone mentioned in in a forum. At the time I was happy using JetAudio with CCCP for my audio and video (those two are dark horses that work amazingly well) and VLC for everything else I couldn't play.
That said, I didnt really need anything else, but I gave this a try and WOW. It plays everything just like VLC, runs quickly and smoothly like CCCP and is user-friendly, configurable and skinnable like JetAudio. PERFECT
I have been using it for 2 weeks now and tested it on many types of video, including the more rare types and it handled them all without a single glitch. even the YouTube/flash .flv and .swf and mobile phone .mp4 and.3gp worked. You really don't need anything else to play videos.
It's not completely perfect though. It does have the odd glitch whenever I play a video with external subtitles where it skips a line or two. Not sure if that's my fault for changing something or not. Also, dragging the player makes my whole screen blink like its having a seizure and again... not sure if that's just me.
These are minor issues though and nothing huge.
Basically if all you have is VLC and need nothing else then you might as well stick with it. But if you see the odd video which VLC doesn't play or you want to configure and tinker with your player in a less complicated way, then GOM is the one.

To Tom: If GOM Player doesn't have a codec of its own to play a specific file, it will try to use codecs otherwise installed on ones system, just like other players. If the required codec is not installed, not only GOM Player but any player that uses external codecs (viz. nearly all of them) will be unable to play the file. In such cases, to play the video, it is required to find and install the regular codec.
GSpot is a good tool to identify which one it is, and a good site to find it is, of course, free-codecs.com. Alternatively, for users who don't like to bother with the details but prefer a less perfect but also less effort solution, installing an up-to-date and relatively stable codec pack (like K-Lite) is a quick, one-size-fits-them-all fix.
